Nessa Aref is a writer/director/producer who was raised in Vancouver, BC. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Anthropology and a minor in Political Science. Left unsupervised with her playmates as a child, Nessa would often cast them in SNL style variety shows, stumbling into her life’s purpose at a very young age. Now at 28 years old she does this professionally, with grown-ups. After co-founding Kalama+Tea Productions with her writing partner Alysson Hall, and writing/directing two web series; The Autobiography of Jane Eyre and All’s Fair Play, Nessa went on to co-produce Freaks (2018) which premiered at TIFF this past year. When she’s not working, Nessa can be found drinking too much coffee and participating in extreme Netflix marathons.
