Mariel Calvo (She/Her) is an Argentine-Canadian director, writer, and performer. She received her BAH in Drama from Queen’s University in 2020 and has since worked as a playwright and theatre director in Ontario and B.C. Credits include How to Drink Mate (Paprika Festival), A Fleck Can Be the Soul (Brave New Play Rites), and Say When (Dan Studio Series). Mariel’s work is rooted in collaboration, grounded in the belief that stories come alive when shaped collectively and with humour. She is eager and excited to fully step into the world of film and direct The Last Caller.
As a filmmaker, Miguel da Ponte (He/Him) strives to cope with the pressing existential crises of our time the only way he’s ever known how: with humour. A lifelong writer, Miguel’s distinct voice and trademark wit has led to success across several mediums; his fiction has been published in literary magazine PRISM: International and his poetry in the chapbook Open Mic. The Last Caller marks Miguel’s first venture into producing, and he is excited for the opportunity to hone his skills throughout the Crazy8’s journey.
