Filmmaker Bios

Helen Liu

  • Director

Helen Liu is a Vancouver-based, Chinese-Canadian Writer/Director and Script Supervisor. She also involves herself in the local indie film community by programming for Film Festivals, including VAFF and VSFF. Helen graduated from Emily Carr with a BFA and received a screenwriting degree from InFocus Film School. She is known for her short film Braised Pork Belly, which she wrote and directed, played at multiple film festivals.

Jordan Symes

  • Writer

Jordan Symes is a writer raised in Kimberley, British Columbia. Though it possibly traumatized him, he credits having watched The Evil Dead at the tender age of eight for opening his eyes to the fact that you can make a living off being creative. He has trouble staying put for more than six months at a time, and thus takes inspiration from his frequent travels, spending time in nature, as well as being a fly on the wall to the dynamics of small-town life. Jordan graduated from InFocus Film School in the Fall of 2022, and in addition to Michelin Scars, has several more surrealist horror shorts in development, as well as Plant-Based, a sitcom inspired by his years of tree-planting.

Nancy Kamar

  • Lead Producer

Nancy is an emerging Lebanese-Canadian producer based in Vancouver. She holds an Economics Honors degree from the University of Calgary and recently completed Film Production at InFocus Film School. She has consulted on projects like UNESCO – Preventing Violent Extremism in the MENA region, challenging community leaders to empower women as individual filmmakers. Nancy continues to seek diverse projects that challenge societal opinions.

Melanie J. Germain

  • Producer

Melanie is an emerging Producer/Writer/Director. Vancouver born and raised to a French father and a Filipino mother. She strives towards making work that celebrates multiple cultures. She has a background in sales, as well as the food industry, and is a huge fan of fine dining, making her a perfect taste tester for the film. As a recent graduate of Infocus Film School, Melanie is fully immersed in finding a path doing the work that she loves.

Moheb Jindran

  • Producer

Moheb Jindran is a Vancouver based actor of Indian-Filipino descent. Having been born and raised in Dubai, Moheb has been exposed to an array of cultures growing up, which drives his pursuit for diversity and representation in film. He moved to Vancouver upon finishing high school and attended Simon Fraser University, graduating with a degree in Behavioural Neuroscience. He then turned his attention to filmmaking, producing numerous award-winning short films, most notably the Crazy8s Short Film “Cuello” and “Switch City”, which he also starred in and went on to win Best Short Film at the Mighty Asian Movie-Making Marathon as well as screened at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival.

As of 2019, Moheb decided to place more of a focus on acting, and has since appeared in numerous commercials and short films, while also earning a credit on the upcoming Netflix adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Most recently, he was cast as “Nikhil”, a recurring character on the upcoming Netflix series “My Life with The Walter Boys”. Moheb hopes to continue to push for representation in film, both in front of the camera and behind it.
