The #Crazy8sFilms18 Gala Screening and AfterParty will be held Saturday, February 24, 2018. Tickets will go on sale in late January 2018.
The Crazy8s Gala 2017 on February 25 was a great success again, bringing together the local film community to showcase and celebrate what we can all accomplish collectively.
The Gala Screening again drew over 1,700 people at the Centre to the unveiling of 6 short films made in just 8 days: ANH HUNG by Lelinh Du, CYPHER by Lawrence Le Lam, NO RESERVATIONS by Trevor Carroll, THE PRINCE by Kyra Zagorsky, THE UNDERTAKER’S SON by the Affolter Brothers and WOODMAN by Mike Jackson. Also screening was the Behind the Scenes film UNITED 8s directed by Kryshan Randel.
The Gala Evening kicked off with a Top 6 Filmmaker and Sponsor Reception. Then local acting legend Ellie Harvie took the stage as Gala Host. Speeches were given by Prem Gill of Creative BC, Vancouver City Councillor Heather Deal and the first Vancouver Film Commissioner, David Shepheard. Also taking the stage, especially to thank our 163 sponsors, were Executive Director Paul Armstrong, Co-Producers Kristyn Stilling and Stephanie Halber, Associate Producers Alicia Bernbaum, Julie Bruns, Mathew Gilroy and Alexandra Staseson, Assistant Producer Moshe Mastai and Digital Communications Assistant Lauren Brett Donnelly.
After the screening guests entered the AfterParty at Science World on the Red Carpet and were then entertained by amazing performances by hip hop artists Missy D (CYPHER ) and Kimmortal (THE PRINCE), the bands The Tourist Company, Alexandra and the Fellas and Sam the Astronaut, a solo performance by Emily Rowed, sets by DJ Dubba G & DJ Ahtz and DJ Emilita and music by the Vova Bedzvin duet! Plus guests were treated to food by The Butler Did It Catering and beer by Big Rock Brewery.
For the first time this year the Gala was live streamed by Polka Dot Rocket hosted by Julie Bruns and David C Jones.
